Recent analysis shows that the majority of newly published web pages now contain some form of AI generated text. This means that most articles, blogs, and product descriptions are at least partly machine written. This shift has happened almost invisibly. AI tools are now embedded into everyday platforms, from document editors to messaging systems and content management tools. Writing with AI has become the default rather than the exception. The same pattern appears in visual media. Billions of AI-generated images have been created in recent years, with millions produced daily. The scale is significant and it raises a fundamental question. In a world of unlimited machine-made content, how do we determine what is real and what can be trusted? Businesses embrace scale but lose the human touch. Marketing teams have been quick to adopt generative AI. The appeal is clear. AI can produce large volumes of content quickly and at low cost. Many organizations now rely on it as a central part of their content strategy. However, this efficiency introduces trade-offs. Readers increasingly recognize the tone of generic AI content. It is consistent and well structured, but often lacks originality, personality, and depth. Studies have identified repetitive phrasing, factual errors, and even unfinished prompts within AI generated material. The result is content that is technically competent but emotionally flat. Public trust is declining as a result. A relatively small proportion of users say they trust content they believe to be AI generated. Many feel the need to verify it independently. When large publishers have used AI without transparency, the reaction has often been negative. This has demonstrated that while AI can scale output, it can also scale distrust. The rise of AI content farms. A more concerning development is the return of content farms powered by automation. Where large groups of writers once produced low quality articles, a single operator can now run entire networks of AI-generated sites. The number of these sites has increased rapidly, producing large volumes of content across multiple languages. Many imitate legitimate news outlets, repackaging or rewriting existing material. Some publish misleading or false information designed to generate advertising revenue. The impact goes beyond misinformation. As low-quality AI content spreads, it dilutes the overall quality of information available online. Analysts warn that if AI systems continue to train on this type of material, future outputs may degrade in quality. This creates a feedback loop where systems learn from increasingly unreliable data. SEO fallout and the shift toward humanization. Search engines are responding to these trends. Policies now target low-value AI-generated content that is designed primarily to manipulate rankings. The emphasis remains on experience, expertise, authority, and trust regardless of how the content is created. In practice, this has led to a shift. Teams that previously relied heavily on automated content are now reintroducing human oversight. Editors are refining AI drafts, improving tone, and verifying accuracy. A new industry has also emerged around making AI-generated text sound more natural. Forward-looking organizations are not abandoning AI. Instead, they are combining AI speed with human judgment.
